People 65 and Over Are Spending More Time On-line

Did you know the number of people 55 and over on the Internet is equal to the number of 18-34 year olds on the Internet? And that in a few years, the amount of time that 65 year old and overs spend on the Internet is expected to exceed that of any other group? Welcome to social media 2.0.

Have done quite a bit of research in the past three years that includes the 55-65 and older crowds, I’m not really surprised by these little tid-bits now. However, when I first started seeing this trend a few years ago, it was surprising. Now, I expect to see it. My clients, however, are still surprised by this.

It’s kind of obvious that younger generations are on-line so much. After all, they’re born into this age. But don’t be surprised when we start seeing more and more retirement aged people hitting the Web. I expect to see more and more well educated people hitting retirement and hopping on-line. Only time will tell.
